About Us

In 1997, we – Stefan and Reme Fries, as a branch of the Spanish art gallery IB Isabel Bilbao, opened an exhibition for the first time in Kaarst at Düsselstrasse 21. Since then, we have been presenting interesting works – paintings, sculptures, and graphics – of our internationally established artists throughout the year on three floors. Our focus has always been, and still is, contemporary Spanish art. Hence, at the beginning of our activities, the name that many still recognize, SPANISCHE KUNST KAARST (Spanish Art Kaarst). In 2004, with the opening of our additional second gallery location in the beautiful old town of Dormagen-Zons, the name was changed to GALERIE FRIES. For 16 years, we operated our small but fine gallery in the old town of Zons, right next to the district museum, before deciding at the end of 2019 – and well before the pandemic – to give up this location in mid-2020 and fully focus on our exhibition house in Kaarst and our online presence.
