Mariano Corral y Libano was born in Algorta (Spain) in 1926, and passed away in Bilbao (Spain) in 2009.
He studied art in Bilbao (Asociacío Artistica Vizcaína), Paris (La Grand Chamiere and L`ecole Dessin Appliques), and Madrid (Círculo de Bellas Artes). He also undertook study trips to Italy, England, and Scotland.
From 1984 to 1991, Mariano Corral y Libano taught drawing and painting at various universities in the Basque Country.
His abstract paintings, executed in oil with scratching and/or spatula techniques, require the viewer’s attention to discern the shadowy figures and faces.
